Greensburg Central Catholic’s Tim Johnson participates in football camp, despite eligibility struggles

August 15, 2011 – It was great to see that Tim Johnson (former QB/OLB for Kiski Area) was practicing today with the Greensburg Central Catholic Centurions. Johnson also played basketball for Kiski Area and transferred to GCC after basketball season.  A May 15th report in the Tribune Review stated that the WPIAL had denied Johnson’s football eligibility at GCC, and a July 21st hearing by the PIAA upheld the decision. Both Boards of Control denied Johnson’s eligibility on grounds that they felt it was athletically motivated.

Today, when asked if everything had come through alright with the hearings and Control Boards, Johnson replied, “Not really.”

SG met Tim Johnson in June at Murrysville Sportzone, where he was playing dek hockey. At that time, Johnson had said his transfer was due to the fact that he had always been a Catholic.

According to a July 22nd report in the Post-Gazette, Johnson will still be eligible to play basketball.

Does this mean ‘basketball’ is now a sacrament?
