So, how do I explain this? I love my blog and every bit of creativity I put into it. But when September hit, I was offered the opportunity to put that creativity into another site to make a living.

It was an opportunity I took…

Sports Town is the site I now work for. No, my writing is not quite the same on Sports Town as it is here on Sportsgazelle.com. Sports Town is funded by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, an institution which frowns upon fart jokes.

This only means I make fun of other things when I write for Sports Town….

Will I ever go back to doing Sportsgazelle.com the same way I did over most of 2011? The most likely answer is that Sportsgazelle.com will always exist as a part of my job with Sports Town. I still make the jokes. I still do photos and videos at games. And I still bring an edge to high school sports. The only difference is that I get paid now.

Have I given up on the idea of SG as its own business? No. But I am putting it on the back burner while making Sports Town money. I was very new in the sponsorship-seeking role when I first tried it for SG, and I wasn’t able to get the system off of the ground before things with Sports Town really kicked in. But, summer comes every year, and SG taught me how to cover high school sports in summer. The plan for SG is that I’ll keep the domain, and if I find myself in a gap with Sports Town, SG will be here where I’ve left it.

What can SG readers do in the meantime? Well, if you missed an stories from the past year, they are all still here. And still awesome, if I do say so…

SG readers, you have to understand that this is bittersweet for me. This sit was my baby when I was trying to get a job. Hell, I wanted to to be my job. And I found a company that wanted to hire me for everything I did and learned here wth Sportsgazelle.com! It’s great, and I’m happy about it. The bittersweetness only comes from the fact that it’s not my gazelle. Sports Town will never have the voice or the jumping gazelle logo that I worked so hard to develop.

But Sports Town gets more and more of these things over time, alongside a useful dose of information from all of my co workers. No matter what happens here at Sportsgazelle.com, the Gazelle will be alive and well..

And to those at any other websites using the word Gazelle, I say forget you! I’m keeping this domain and all my good stuff here forever.

Thanks for reading, western PA high school sports fans!

Seriously, this had been my first trip to Vandergrift and I got the idea that Davis Field was in an older neighborhood. The field still uses natural grass, some of which was green.
I meant to post this at the beginning of September when the game actually happened, but that’s when work got crazy. (In a good way, if you are my boss…)

No, really – I love that I get to work for Sports Town. Check it out sometime. And, check back to SG. This week’s game is Fox Chapel at Gateway girls’ soccer. The Gators will be looking for revenge on one of their big section rivals…

September 12, 2011 – Ok, ok, I’m WAY behind on my posting, but stay with us – it’ll be coming back on schedule after this week. The truth is, I’m looking for some good interns who can help me when things get crazy with work. Please note that I’m not complaining — my job is pretty cool!

The video I keep talking about (the Penn-Trafford football home opener) will be up in the next couple of days. Mark Scheinert (my new video editor) and I got together and hacked through it last Friday night. We just need to add the right soundtrack now. I was thinking we’d add something special. Something… that won’t get us busted by the RIAA…

Also, I have stories to tell from this past weekend. I attended the 2011 Red, White and Blue Classic, a giant cross country meet.

The meet was held at Schenley Park, a place that would be more aptly named “The Eighth Circle of Hell,” because it was buried in a weird location and had absolutely no parking. A Scottish man with a dog had to show me where the race was happening, because the only designated parking area on the map was literally miles from the meet.

Nonetheless, I got there. I took pictures. I annoyed people. And, I called Triple-A to jumpstart my car. It was… an adventure.

So, stay-put, SG fans. We’re about to jumpstart the site. We just need a little time to make some money…

September 8, 2011 - Actually, I’m doing a couple of things. But one of them is to FINALLY POST THE VIDEO FROM LAST WEEK’S GAME. For those of you who don’t remember, that game was Peters Township at Penn Trafford, and it looked a little like this:

Yeah… and this was only the beginning.

Also, while Sportsgazelle.com is experiencing a slight schedule blip due to the awesome growth of the site I work for (Sports Town), be sure to check out my monthly column in Red Shtick Magazine, out of Baton Rouge. This month details rivalries: Whch ones are real and which ones just sell junk?

Drum roll, please.

Ladies and gentlemen, you’ve already got the scores and recaps for every game in the WPIAL. Those were in the Post-Gazette by one this morning. (I know because I had to re-post them on Sports Town for work.) It’s true that I’ll never have the volume of information of those people. (Hell, I am those people). But, what I can give you is something they haven’t got. It’s a little something I”d like to call “the view from down here.” It’s what you get when you’re 5-foot-1 and make it down onto the field for opening night.

Yes, I’m aware the Warriors spanked the Indians 42-12. Yes, I was geeked when I watched Simpson run. But there’s just so much more to it than that…

I have a ton of video to work through, but once I post it you’ll be able to see a football season-opener for the electric atmosphere it’s meant to have. There was an editorial in the Post-Gazette the other day from the point of view of a woman who felt that there was no school spirit for football, anymore. Once you see my video, you’ll be able to call bull[SUGAR] on that one.

Ok, I have to go. One more page of links to record for work and then I’m off to watch a game without taking notes, for a change. My alma mater LSU TIGERS are taking the field at Cowboys Stadium to face the Oregon Ducks, and I must hinge on the game to find out whether or not it will make folks make fun of me.

I’ll have the PT-at-PT showdown video up in the next couple of days, but in the meantime, I’ll leave you with this question:

What would be the best dance to do if you just sacked an opponent’s quarterback?

Find out soon…
